Boston...

I lived and worked in and around Boston for nearly ten years.  I started my undergraduate education at Northeastern University and finished my Master's Degree at Boston University.   I know the city very well.  I first walked down Bolyston Street when I was just 18.  I spent years enjoying the Boston Pops and the Boston Symphony from the first balcony at Symphony Hall.  I enjoyed dozens of Red Soxs games at Fenway.  I remain a loyal, if distant Red Soxs fan.   I KNOW Boston... and its people.

And so... as the dust settles and the new concrete has been repoured over the bloodstained sidewalks, my heart and my prayers are with its people as they try and move on in life.  The sun will rise tomorrow...

The Living Room...

See?  This is exactly why I spend so much time in my Man Cave and back office...

Elliot Chavez & Friends January 2013

Nothing like a grandchild to warm the heart...

"Whenever You Remember"

as sung by Carrie Underwood

When you look back on times we had
I hope you smile
And know that through the good and through the bad
I was on your side when nobody could hold us down
We claimed the brightest star
And we, we came so far
And no they won't forget

[Chorus]
Whenever you remember times gone by
Remember how we held our heads so high
When all this world was there for us
And we believed that we could touch the sky
Whenever you remember, I'll be there
Remember how we reached that dream together
Whenever you remember

When you think back on all we've done
I hope you're proud
When you look back and see how far we've come
It was our time to shine
And nobody could hold us down
They thought they'd see us fall
But we, we stood so tall
And no we won't forget

Whenever you remember times gone by
Remember how we held our heads so high
When all this world was there for us
And we believed that we could touch the sky
Whenever you remember, I'll be there
Remember how we reached that dream together
Whenever you remember

Yeah, Oh

We claimed the brightest star
And we, we came so far
You know that we, we showed them all
And no they won't forget

Yeah

Whenever you remember times gone by
Remember how we held our heads so high
When all this world was there for us
And we believed that we could touch the sky
Whenever you remember, I'll be there
Remember how we reached that dream together
Whenever you remember

Whenever you remember

Oh, whenever you remember

Still Crazy... - After All These Years

Gee, ...despite being away from this site for over nine months since last posting... and despite what some of you may have surmised...  no, I am not crazy yet... at least not in my own mind....  actually, that's not quite true, for I have ALWAYS been a little crazy... its just that now they tell me my mind is going that way too...  when you think about it... the irony of it all strikes me as quite humorous in some ways...

Words & music by Paul Simon

I met my old lover
On the street last night
She seemed so glad to see me
I just smiled
And we talked about some old times
And we drank ourselves some beers
Still crazy afler all these years
Oh, still crazy after all these years

I'm not the kind of man
Who tends to socialize
I seem to lean on
Old familiar ways
And I ain't no fool for love songs
That whisper in my ears
Still crazy afler all these years
Oh, still crazy after all these years

Four in the morning
Crapped out, yawning
Longing my life a--way
I'll never worry
Why should i?
It's all gonna fade

Now I sit by my window
And I watch the cars
I fear I'll do some damage
One fine day
But I would not be convicted
By a jury of my peers
Still crazy after all these years
Oh, still crazy
Still crazy
Still crazy after all these years

Time Present and Time Past...

A friend sent me a note this week about the five year anniversary of the passing of her son, who was her only child. Apart from her obvious sense of sadness and loss, it reminded me of how quickly time seems to go by at my age (now 61 I am...).   It also reminded me of the first part of the first quartet of a four part poem by TS Elliot...

Time present and time past
Are both perhaps present in time future,
And time future contained in time past.
If all time is eternally present
All time is unredeemable.
What might have been is an abstraction
Remaining a perpetual possibility
Only in a world of speculation.
What might have been and what has been
Point to one end, which is always present.
Footfalls echo in the memory
Down the passage which we did not take
Towards the door we never opened
Into the rose-garden.  My words echo
Thus, in your mind.
         But to what purpose
Disturbing the dust on a bowl of rose-leaves
I do not know.

Remembering A Retro Life...

While I still can at least...   a friend recently sent me a link from the old days with a lot of photos that brought back a great many memories of my youth... for example, I can still remember many evenings sitting at the kitchen table helping my Mother fill up her books of S&H Green Stamps...

and yes... what a time... it was...

Brain stimulator helps slow man's Alzheimer's disease

I see it's been awhile since I have posted here... but today I post up some possible news of a breakthrough in the treatment of early stage Alzheimer's Disease.   Canadian researchers have seemingly proven in early tests that if the memory cells of the brain can be constantly stimulated with continuous electrical current then the deterioration of memory might be arrested.  Thus far, they have only tried this in a few patients, but the majority showed improvement.  Also, it only seems to work in people in the early stages of the disease.  The next step is a larger study some of which will be conducted in the United States.   See the details at the video link below...

Also, in other important news, St. Patrick's Day was last Saturday and the results for the best commercial celebrating the day has been posted.  See this link.
